Poker Bluffing Basics

The Poker Basics Around Bluffing

The basics of Bluffing and Spotting A Bluff

So the basic of bluffing in poker revolve around finding your opponents weaknesses. There are a couple of basic points here and they all involve deception of some kind.

In order to truly understand how to bluff you need to understand the basic of poker and the game you intend to play. Poker comes in a number of different variations and as such this means that you need to understand the basics of whatever form of poker you would like to play.

At the moment the main poker style is Texas hold'em predominately played on the internet. However off line poker bluffing often has more tricks and variations than on-line poker play which relies heavily on pot odd calculations and speed of betting.

Physical composer is far more important in offline poker as poker tells such as eyes, sweat and heart rate are often easy reads for poker professionals when dealing with poker amatures.

Online poker tells are what most poker players are interested in though as not many poker players play poker in the real life situations for any serious amounts of money.

The basics tells for a person bluffing in internet poker are:

Positional raising
Raising quickly
Over betting the pot
Players playing on Tilt

Positional Raising is when a player makes bet raises in late position to steal the blinds. Bet sizes usually range around 3 times the big blind. This is done in order to steal the blinds without seeing the flop.

Raising quickly is often a sign for a person betting on a bluff as they are trying to convince their opponents that they have strong hands. More mature players will bet smaller amounts enticing more betting will considering the cards on the table. Armatures will either bet with nothing aggressively or with pairs. Watch out for this kind of betting if you have semi good hands.

Over betting the pot is what armatures do often too as they do not understand the hands value and this often means that they will be overly aggressive or overly passive waiting for their opponents to make raises. This often means that they are outdrawn and find that their leading flop hands are not correctly valued.

The other great thing about internet poker is the number of people playing on tilt or just plain drunk. It may take you a while to recognise these players but often chatting to them in the chat box will tell you a lot about their state of mind. Try to chat to your opponents to get a read on their situations.
