Well you know its a bad poker bluff when you get called. So all poker bluffs that get called are effectively bad ones.
Really bad poker bluffs are those where you lose a lot of your bankroll. That means you probably are playing over your head in terms of stakes and should go to a lower level. Poker without bluffing is losing poker.
Personally I don't think there are any really bad bluffs as long as you can keep your head and use your table image to project a loose image and then play tight cards. Often the problem with this is that players are called by bad cards and get bad beats which send them into a tail spin and their game goes to pot and onto what is commonly know as tilt where you play aggressively with bad cards. This often happens with tight players who get bad beats.
Anyway the root cause of bad bluffs comes from not paying enough attention to your opponents who call you. If you study their hands and can put them on a hand then you can most probably find a way to bluff them out of a pot. Another common cause of bad bluffs is bluffing too often. Once to have established yourself as a person who bluffs then it is important to use this table to image to get people to call your big hands.
A good tactic is to make small bluffs at the pot to win hands and let people think that you are stealing from them. Then when you do have a big hand your opponents are more likely to call you.
Bad poker bluffs come when you make big plays with nothing and don't read your opponents strength correctly. This can often happen when you become too attached to your chips that you have already committed and want to win at all costs. Sometimes winning at all costs means that you lose.
Winning poker players understand moderation and have patience to select the hands that they choose to bluff on. Losing poker players are impatient and want to win at all costs preferring to bluff on hands where they should be folding.
In the videos you see on this site many times a bluff has been set up only after hours of play. Keep this in mind before you try this at home.
